Welcome to our Amazon Solutions Architect Interview Course
Solutions architects are some of the coolest roles in the technology sector at the intersection of sales, account management, and technical knowledge. Whether you're hoping to transition to your first solutions architect role, or you're already a solutions architect trying to move into the Amazon role, you're in the right place.
We designed this course alongside solutions architects from Amazon to help you excel in your solutions architect interview. Simply put, this course gives you an unrivaled look at how to ace your Solutions Architect interview at Amazon.
This is more than just your average course, though. In each lesson, you'll find realistic examples and exercises that help you practice what you've learned and evaluate your progress. As an Exponent member, you'll receive access to even more resources, including discussion groups, mock interviews, and regular content updates.
Goals of this course
By the end of the course, you should be able to:
- Understand what's evaluated in the AWS Solutions Architect interview loop.
- Create a rich story bank based on your past experiences for Amazon's leadership principle interviews.
- Describe your process for building high-performing software systems.
- Discuss complex technical decisions in system design interviews.
How to use this course
Generally Amazon's solutions architect interview questions fall into the following categories:
- System Design. These questions are often done on a virtual whiteboard and involve complex system questions starting with something like "Design an ecommerce website" and then follow-up questions about specific aspects like improving latency. Study for these questions by reviewing and practicing our system design interview course contained below.
- Technical Concepts. Solutions architects need to know how to explain technical concepts to customers. To test this in the interview, Amazon asks questions like "What is an API?" to assess your technical understanding. Review these technical concepts in our Fundamentals of System Design Course included below.
- Amazon's Leadership Principles. Amazon is infamous for their leadership principles, where they ask behavioral questions mapped to their leadership principles. It's absolutely critical you review these leadership principles before your interview and have stories that can map to each of them. Review a video answer for each leadership principle in our Amazon Leadership Principles course below.
- Presentation. Amazon also sometimes asks SA interviewees to craft a customer-facing technical presentation. You can review behavioral tips in our course below, and schedule a practice peer mock interview or coaching session if you'd like to practice your presentation skills.
For practice questions, we recommend recording your own answer first, and then comparing your response against our solutions. Remember, there’s usually no one “correct” answer in interviewing, but you should be able to identify ways to improve the structure and content of your response with practice.
