Welcome to Exponent’s Data Analyst Interview Course!

Got a data analyst interview coming up? Your first instinct is probably to dive straight into SQL practice.

Finishing 50 SQL problems might make you feel ready but our research shows that that confidence is misplaced, especially for senior roles. SQL is table stakes, not what gets you hired.

For example, OpenAI’s take-home challenge is a business case, not a timed SQL test. And SQL is only tested in 1 of the 6 rounds there [1].

Here's our 72-hour study plan to get you ready for your interviews at big tech companies to high-growth startups.

Study plan

  1. Before diving into coding SQL, learn how its tested in interviews.
  2. Your first round is likely a recruiter screen and/or a hiring manager round. Make sure you’ve got the answers to common behavioral questions like “Why data analyst?
  3. Check your role specifics. You may need to master Excel, build dashboards, or design experiments. Regardless of your speciality, our technical course has something for you
  4. Learn how to tackle case studies. This is highly weighted in the interview process.
  5. Practice interviewing on our 1:1 peer mock platform. We recommend doing at least one behavioral mock and one SQL mock.
  6. Practice answering recent interview questions asked at top tech companies.

Watch this full mock to see how to tie all your skills together and crush an interview.

Tailor your prep

Adjust the study plan above to suit the interview process of the company you are interviewing at. Check with your interviewer what the process is or check out our guides.

  • If you have an online coding assessment coming up soon, our SQL fast track module allows you to prep for them in as quick as under 2 hours.
  • If you have a take-home assignment, learn how to ace it without spending an excessive amount of time on it.
  • If you are going for a product analytics role, you’ll need to be very adept at answering product sense questions.

We believe that an informed candidate is highly likely a successful one. Interview prep shouldn't be a full-time job. And that’s what we are committed to do: to increase your chances at landing the job and to decrease the time taken to do so.

By embarking with us, you’re getting the insights and coaching of hiring managers, interviewers, and successful data analysts from major tech companies like Google, Meta, Amazon, Microsoft, Uber, and more under a single learning platform.

Let’s ace this.
