Q: Tell me about a dashboard you built. What was the purpose, and how did you approach it?

What interviewers are testing:

Your ability to connect dashboards to real business needs—not just build charts. They want to know if you’ve worked cross-functionally, understood business context, and built something impactful (not just flashy).

Common pitfalls:

  • Overemphasizing technical tools: "I used Tableau to connect to Redshift and build charts with custom SQL."
  • Misses business impact and user adoption—too focused on mechanics.

What to include:

  • Start with who the dashboard was for (Sales, Product, Execs)
  • Frame the business goal (“Leadership wanted to track trial conversion weekly”) → PRD
  • Mention collaboration: “Worked with sales ops to define CAC logic.”
