Practice: Rehearse Your Story

Premium

It's time to practice!

At Exponent, we know the power of practice is one of the best ways to get better at interviewing, and luckily, the project retrospective is an interview question that lends itself very well to practicing.

That said, practicing is different than rehearsing - it's important to know your story and be able to speak to it easily without sounding overly rigid or inflexible. That's why we recommend jotting down notes and then speaking off of them naturally - it's less important that you hit all the notes, but more important that you're genuine and authentic in how you talk about your previous experience.

Here are a few ways you can practice your story with Exponent:

  • Try answering the project retrospective question in front of a mirror. Take five minutes afterward. How did that feel? How would you rate your performance?
  • Open up your webcam application and record yourself talking. Rewatching the video can be almost as helpful as practicing itself. Evaluate yourself as an interviewer. What did you like about the answer? What would you improve?
  • Try submitting your answer in our interview question database. Pick a question like "Tell me about a project you're proud of" and submit an answer to see other Exponent users give you feedback!

When you're ready, practice live with a practice partner. All Exponent users can join our daily matching sessions at tryexponent.com/practice - you'll get to practice the question in front of a peer practice partner to collect feedback on how you can improve.
