How to Choose Your Project

Follow these 3 steps and choose a project for your deep dive in 5 minutes or less. The three key components to an excellent project for your discussion? Relevance, ownership, and depth.

1. Rank by relevance

Let AI do the sorting. Your resume and performance reviews should already list the projects you worked on with meaningful impact, so gather these:

• Job description
• Resume
• Performance reviews

Your resume and performance reviews only include work that already cleared an impact bar (that's why it made it onto those documents in the first place). So this step is doing two jobs at once: filtering for relevance to the team, and filtering for impact, simultaneously.

Feed the two docs into AI, along with the job description pasted directly into the prompt:

"Here's the job description I'm interviewing for: [paste JD]

Using my attached resume and performance reviews, rank the projects I've worked on by how relevant they'd be to this team."

Once you have that ranked list, start from the top.

2. Check ownership

Starting from the top of that ranked list, ask yourself: can you speak authoritatively on this project? That means either you owned it, or you were involved in the discussions on the parts you didn't own.

If yes, move to the final step. If not, move down to the next project on the list and ask again.

3. Confirm you can go deep

For that project, can you go deep on one specific aspect? This should be the part you were most heavily involved in.
