What are FDE Project Deep Dives?

A project deep dive is a presentation and/or discussion around a single project you worked on, taking up an entire 45-minute round.

This differs from the classic "tell me about a past project" behavioral question in three ways:

• You're expected to go technical in addition to covering business outcomes/impact.
• You're expected to present slides.
• The discussion takes up the whole round.

Think of it as a bring-your-own decomposition question. Instead of the interviewer handing you a prompt to break down, you're presenting one from your own experience and defending it under scrutiny.

Here's how it typically runs:

You'll get roughly 1 week to prepare your presentation. We cover the essential presentation slides to include in our preparing your project lesson.

You'll then present to one to two tech leads or engineers. They can and will go deep on your project, so expect follow-up questions and tangents. Later in this course, we'll show you how to prep for those follow-ups, including how to preempt them directly in your slides when a point is complex enough to need an illustration.

This round isn't common, but when it shows up in your loop, it weighs heavily. If you know it's part of your process, prepping thoroughly with this course will yield good returns.

And because so much rides on a single presentation, which project you choose to present matters a lot. It's what puts you in the best position to showcase your expertise.
