PM interviewing can be scary, especially with companies like Google and Facebook rumored to have a 1% acceptance rate. You might be confused about the best approach to preparing for your interview, and you’re not alone.

How to use this course

Generally PM interview questions fall into the following categories:

• Estimation. These questions test your ability to critically think and deduce answers with little information.

• Analytical & Execution. These questions test your ability to reason about metrics, data, and strategy.

• Product Design/Sense These questions test your product vision and insight — do you understand how to design a successful product?

• Product Strategy These questions test your strategic reasoning on business decisions as they relate to building product.

• Technical These questions test your ability to work with engineering.

To start, read through the introduction category and the introduction lesson for each of these categories. Once you’ve understood the general types of questions and frameworks, test yourself on a question in each category.

It may be tempting, but don’t just look at the answer — this course is designed for you to actually practice your answer (you can even record yourself talking) and then check your response against our answer. Remember that there’s usually no “correct” answer in PM interviewing, but by reading through our answer, you’ll be able to identify how to improve the structure and content of your response.

After you’ve tested yourself in each category, try taking one PM interview question per day (this will take about one month). If you have questions or thoughts, visit the Exponent PM Slack Channel and actively participate. There, you can learn even more about the right approaches to each question.

Lastly, once you’ve completed all the lessons and questions, there’s even more practice at our interview question database. Practice these seriously. We select the top answers to give detailed feedback and analysis.
