Welcome to Exponent's Product Designer Interview Course!
Great product designers are visionaries, delivering world-changing products across the technology industry. Unsurprisingly, the process of becoming a product designer is challenging. Whether you're hoping to transition to product design / UX design / visual design, or if you're already a designer preparing for your next career move, you're in the right place.
We designed this course with the help of managers from top tech companies including Facebook, Google, and more. Once you've been through this course, you'll understand the most common types of design interview questions and how to prepare.
In each lesson, you'll find realistic examples and exercises that help you practice what you've learned and evaluate your progress. As an Exponent member, you'll receive access to even more resources, including discussion groups, mock interviews, and regular content updates.
Course Goals
By the end of the course, you should be able to:
- Understand what's evaluated in the product designer interview loop.
- Create a portfolio based on your past experiences for portfolio reviews.
- Deliver a compelling whiteboarding challenge, and/or app critique that showcases your thoughtful design skills.
- Ace behavioral interview questions with your own story bank full of personal examples.
UX/Product Design Interviews
Generally, product design interview questions fall into the following categories:
- Portfolio Review: In the first module, you'll learn how to structure winning portfolios, view several examples, and learn to demonstrate design thinking & product thinking.
- Design Challenges: We'll teach you how to answer whiteboarding design challenges using a proven, time-bound framework to keep you on track. We'll also share a mock video where Furquan, a Product Designer @ Meta will design a smart lock.
- App Critiques: Next, we'll share a framework for answering app critique interview questions along with several examples -- both written, and in video form.
- Take-home Design Challenges: Although take-homes are becoming less popular in tech, they still pop up occasionally. We'll share a sample take home-design challenge, and you'll have another opportunity to have your work reviewed by a design interviewer.
- Behavioral Interviews: In the last module, we'll discuss how to ace your behavioral interviews.
We're excited to have you with us! Join us in the Exponent Slack group where you can share ideas, questions, and feedback as you go through this course.
