In this guide, we'll examine frequently asked questions about Match Group's PM interview process, including hiring criteria and tips to succeed in the interview.

Product management at Match Group is incredibly rewarding, with its focus on an incredibly human, important problem near and dear to billions around the world.

Interview Process

To interview for the Match Group product manager role, you'll go through four stages: a recruiter call, a product phone screen, a take-home assignment, and a director of product interview.

Recruiter Call

The first stage is a quick 30-min call with a Match Group recruiter. These calls are less evaluative in nature and more motivational & level-setting. The recruiter will ask about your product management experience, as well as why you want to work at the company. Questions might include: "Why do you want to be a product manager?" and "Why do you want to work at Match Group?"

No need to prepare much for this one! Review your resume to speak off it, and be sure to research a bit more about Match Group.

Product Phone Screen

In this one hour conversational interview, you'll speak with a product manager at the Match Group. This interview will be focused on your past experience, where you'll be asked to walk through a previous product you've developed, and key tradeoffs you made when bringing the product from inception to launch. The questions may also involve Match.com, and how you'd improve the product. To prepare for these interviews, review your experience, develop stories that you can speak about, and research the Match Group.

Take Home Assignment

In this stage, you'll be asked to complete a take-home assignment for improving a product experience. You'll be asked to write a detailed plan, the complete process, success metrics, and risks involved with launching this product improvement. Ultimately, interviewers are evaluating you on your ability to take large, ambiguous problems and break them down into applicable insights to ship an excellent product.

Director of Product Interview

In this stage, you'll meet with a senior-level executive at the Match Group (e.g. a director of product) who will ask you questions in the following three categories:

  • Past work experience
  • Questions related to Match.com
  • A strategy case interview question

Again, being a user of Match's products and preparing for these interviews by reviewing your own background and experience is the best way to prep. Focus on the product strategy section of our course as well. Review some of the questions asked by Match Group here.
