Interview experiences

"Amazon Senior TPM interviews involve a recruiter screen, technical phone screen, and a 4 round virtual loop. Assessments focus on system design, program management, and strict adherence to Amazon’s 16 Leadership Principles. A Bar Raiser ensures hiring standards, evaluating candidates on technical depth, cross-functional delivery, and behavioural STAR responses"

"The overall interview process consisted of a recruiter screen, a technical call with the hiring manager, a written narrative exercise, and a 5-round virtual loop focusing on System Design, People Management, Operational Excellence, Cross-Functional Leadership, and a Bar Raiser round, with each module heavily testing Amazon’s Leadership Principles using the STAR method. What went well was my ability to deliver structured, data-driven answers that dedicated most of the time to my direct actions as a leader while anchoring results in concrete business metrics. I successfully demonstrated core Leadership Principles like Customer Obsession and Hire and Develop the Best through explicit examples of team growth, performance management, and architecture trade-offs, effectively balancing high-level business strategy with technical depth during system design discussions. What didn’t go as well was my initial tendency to credit the team using "we" instead of "I," which required interviewers to interrupt and probe for my specific individual contributions. Additionally, I mismanaged pacing in one round by spending too much backstory time setting up an operational failure scenario, which left little time for long-term preventative fixes, and I initially got bogged down optimizing a single database schema during system design rather than outlining the full end-to-end architecture first"

"I interviewed for a Senior Product Manager role where both L5 and L6 openings were in play. The process was pretty simple structurally: one 30-minute screening call, then a final loop of five separate one-hour interviews that I could schedule on different days. From what I saw, the whole thing was heavily behavioral and really centered on Amazon's leadership principles, even when the interviewers didn't say the principle out loud. The questions were pretty open-ended, so a big part of the challenge was recognizing what they were actually testing and tailoring my story to that. What stood out to me was how standardized the process felt around principles rather than product cases or execution exercises."

"I did a hard pre-assessment first, then the recruiter fast-tracked me because I already had other offers and got me through the rest of the loop in about a week. The onsite was five rounds for me: hiring manager, coding, company values, system design, and then another coding round. The most unusual part was the company values interview, which was run by nontechnical people and felt almost like a therapy session because they kept probing how I felt, not just what I did. The technical rounds were more practical than I expected, while the behavioral side was where I felt the real pressure. I finished the loop, but at the time of this conversation, I was still waiting on the outcome."

"I interviewed for an internal Senior Product Manager L6 role. After my resume got screened in, I had a hiring manager phone screen and then four LP-based rounds spread across about two and a half weeks. There were no dedicated technical rounds, although the hiring manager did ask about my technical skills and domain understanding in the first call. All of my interviewers were seasoned L6 product managers, manager PMs, or L7+ leaders, and the whole process felt heavily centered on Amazon leadership principles and the internal question bank. It was honestly a fun experience, but the bar felt different from other places and the probing was very Amazon-specific."
