Why did Google build Chrome?

"The core process was a hiring manager screen plus three product loop interviews, and then I had to do an extra product round because one earlier interview did not give them strong enough strategic signals. Due to my original role being filled, I got re-routed to a different L5 PM role in another team AFTER finishing the main loop. After the switch, I also had an informal chat with the new hiring manager and then a 30 minute director conversation."
