My system design round was literally, “You’re a Netflix subscriber, you forgot your password. Design everything that happens after you click the forgot password button,” including all the behind the scenes flow and edge cases.

What was very unusual is they didn’t give me any tooling to draw the system design, so I just sketched it on a piece of paper and talked them through it, then we got into this oddly deep debate about whether hover-over history should count as a recommendation signal.

Netflix’s system design was way more conversational than I expected. We didn’t draw architecture at all, and it felt more like an interview with a PM about a real unsolved team problem than a classic design round.

The recruiter was very responsive, Very standard questions if your experience is well aligned. Lot of interviewers who were less than 6 months into the company.

It was a straightforward interview process. I was contacted by the recruiter, had hiring manager, skip level / team screen and then an onsite meeting with cross functional team members. I didn't appreciate that there was miscommunication with the recruiter on which of the two roles that were open that I was interviewing for, and that ultimately cost me an offer because I prepared a deck for the wrong role.

Interviews were surprisingly easy and seemed more vibes based. Nothing was ridiculously difficult or unfair. It was more of a "does this kid seem smart and genuine"
